Mazda RX8 Production Line Fire

Many people know I've been trying to save my pennies for a Mazda RX8 lately and I'm finally getting close! I've been very involved with the RX8 community since it started (Heck, I'm even in the Presidency of the Rocky Mountain RX8 Club (I made that web site too...:) ))

Well, about 3 weeks ago, there was a fire at the main Mazda production plant in Japan. This is where they make all the RX8s. They have stopped production of RX8s along with many other Mazda's. Well, recent news is now pointing to Mazda not starting production back up until the March time frame. This will create a large shortage of Mazda's especially in the states. This is right when I was going to get mine. Now I either have to hurry up and buy, or risk waiting for many more months to get one. I feel for Mazda though. They were having great success with their Mazda 6, Mazda 3 and the RX8 and then this happens. What a horrible time for this to happen. Arrggg....So if anyone wants to contribute to the "Andrew needs an RX8 Fund" Please contact me! :)

Andrew,

You think you've got it bad - I ordered an RX8 for delivery 1st March and I only found out about the fire on Friday!

My dealer has confirmed that my car was distroyed in the fire but they have no further information. I'm gutted and I think it's very poor communication by Mazda.

I'm waiting for a call back from them... (sob!)

Oh man!! That does suck! So you haven't heard when you are supposed to get your car at all then huh? Well, I don't know if you have seen all the recent updates, but you can check them out here:

Good luck with you car! And thanks for stopping by!

Hi again,

Thanks for the link - I've found Rotary News is the best site for updates but, like so many, it's a US site and I'm in the UK. There seems very little info about the effect on production for the British market.

All I know is I'm first in the queue when production resumes but I don't know when that will be. Hopefully I'll hear back from Mazda UK tomorrow.

In the meantime all I can do is dream and put up with jokes about having and alternative colour - flame red, charcoal grey or burnt orange!!

I would think Rotary News posts regrading this is still valid for you because ALL RX8s are made in Japan. So regardless of where you are in the world, you still have to get it from the plant in Japan.

I wish they did make a burnt Orange 8! I would buy that color in a second!
