What kind of music do YOU like?

A lot of people that know me know I have a LOT of music. Even so, it doesn't mean I like/love it all. I thought that I would take some time and throw up my favorite music.

Ok...now that I've taken up a page just listing bands...

Check out the extended text (click the link below) to read my ramblings on about each band.

  • Dave Matthews Band - My all time favorite band. I've been jamin' to the sounds of Dave since I think my freshman/sophomore year in high school (like '94/95) when Under the Table and Dreaming came out. I can remember when Crash came out too. A friend Alex and I ditched a class to go get the new album (Ohhh...weren't we bad!!).

Dave and his band are some of the most talented musicians I've hear.

    • Dave is a great singer and showed it in his solo album, Some Devil, released last year.

    • Carter Beauford is probably one of the best drummers around and is a really cool guy.

    • LeRoi Moore can sooth you with his mad sax skills.

    • Boyd Tinsley rocks with his cool electric violin and has cool hair.

    • And Stephan is a bad role model for kids (hehehe...he quit high school at 16 to play in the band...I think he is doing ok with out it...hehe), but he jams the bass like a madman.

I've been to 5 of their concerts (2 at redrocks) and they rule live. The best concert I've ever been to was DMB @ Redrocks and John Popper (of Blues Travler) came out on stage and they all had a jam session. It rocked. So if you have never heard DMB, check them out NOW!

  • Sarah McLachlan - The beautiful voice of Sarah has always been a favorite of mine. I started enjoying her music back in high school when Fumbling towards Extacy came out. I actually even did a report on one of her songs in out Semantics class! A lot of her stuff is sort of depressing, but she has such a beautiful voice, that it somehow makes it all better. She took a few years off to have a kid (slacker...we want new music!!), but came out with a new album last year and it lives up to the old standards and is just as good as the rest of them.

  • Radiohead - The crazy energetic band always gets ya movin'. I had always heard people talk about Radiohead in high school but I had never really heard them (besides Creep, but I didn't really know it was them). I was introduced to their music by a friend up at CU (college) named Justin. He was a hardcore fan of them like I am with DMB. So I thought I would check them out. I'm always confused why people think of Creep as being an example of their albums, cause it is not much like the rest of their music. Thom Yorke's voice is so unique and he is crazy energetic. I saw a live performance of them on Saturday Night Live once and they played Idioteque and he was going crazy! Jumping all over the place, singing like crazy! I've never seen a grown man have so much energy. It was great. From then on, I was hooked. They are a great band. I really like most of their albums. You all should check 'em out.

  • Counting Crows - Nothing is better than signing Mr. Jones in your car. :) Like most the other bands in this old school section, I started liking the Counting Crows in high school. We used to listen to them on the car rides up to go snowboarding and signing at the tops of our lungs. Adam has a weird voice that makes them unique. They are great writers and their songs are a lot of fun. They even have a song in Shrek 2! How cool are they?? hehe. I think August and Everything after is probably my favorite album still though. Their new stuff is good, but the old stuff just brings back the memories.

  • Paul Oakenfold - Had to put some techno up and who better than the most famous DJ in the world? I liked some techno in high school (like the Crystal Method and Prodogy (before they were The Prodogy and had words). But I didn't really get into techno until college. A friend of mine, Bob, was a huge fan of Oakenfold and so he hooked me up with a listen. What a talented guy. He was awarded the "Best DJ in the World" by DJ magazine back in like 1998/9. And he is English, so I have to give him props cause he is from the mother land! ;) Listening to the "Essential Mix" with Oakenfold is always fun. The announcer is a riot with his accent. Oakenfold plays more House type techno so it isn't as repetitive like a lot of people hate techno for. If you are looking for some really good techno, Oakenfold is definitely a great place to start.

  • Michael Jackson - You all can say what you want. He may have been accused of child molestation and all that mess, but the man (or what ever he is now...) can sing and dance! Just watch his feet sometime in his videos. It is amazing. He definitely deserves a life time music award. So give it up for MJ...HOOOOOOOOO
  • New School Favorites:

  • Maroon 5 - Marron 5 is a great new band with an awesome sound. Basically, I started hearing them on the radio and I liked their sound. Their song "This Love" is great and that is what made me buy their album. The rest of the album is great too. Sort of in the alternative realm which we all miss.

  • Devotchka - A friends band and they rock! My friend Brian has been bugging me for years to listen to these guys as he knows the band very well. I finally took his advice and I really like a lot of their songs. Some of their stuff is weird and reminds me of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, but the songs with words are great. They are from Denver/Boulder area too, so you'll heard some funny stuff like Commerce City Sister. :) Check them out. You can actually download some of their music in full form from their website.

  • Avril Lavigne - Yeah, she's mad at the world...but she's got some talent! Yeah, she is sort of a teene-bopper type, but I like her stuff. She is talented unlike some other groups out there. She wrote her first album. Her second album is pretty good too.

  • David Gray - Recommended to me by Dave Matthews (no really...he sent me an email...:) ) and I like him a lot too. David Gray is a great guitar player. I really enjoy a good guitar player if you can't tell. And I really did get an email from Dave Matthews recommending him. It wasn't just to me...but still. He recommended him so I checked him out. You should too!

  • John Mayer - Someone else who can rock on the guitar as well. I had heard Amazing on the radio a lot, but I hadn't heard any of John Mayer's stuff until my flight to Australia. They have their "Featured Artists" channel on the plane and John Mayer and Hillary Duff were that months pick. So I listed to them while I flew for 14 hours. :) I was pretty much hooked on John Mayer after that flight so I picked up his album and the rest of it was great too! So take my word for and don't wait to take a 14 hours flight to find out what he is like.
