Apple releases new iMac

Apple today released the next generation of the iMac. It is a 17" (or 20") monitor with the computer built into it! It is 2" thick and they are touting that it is the smallest/thinest desktop computer available. The most exciting part of the new iMac is that it sports a G5 inside that tiny case. You can now be the proud owner of a 17" G5 for $1299. Pretty cheap if you ask me...

On a different note, I just found a very cool product from Trool Touch for turning your mac monitor into a touch screen. This even works on iBooks and (according to macnn.com today) now the 12", 15", and 17" powerbooks as well. I have always wished my powerbook had a touch screen...now it can!

Read on for more comments...

I have a few comments on the iMac. They have finally started making their displays for the iMacs with a better resolution! The 17" have native resolution of 1440X900 and the 20" has a native resolution of 1680X1050! Both are wide screen displays and look beautiful.

One also has to wonder how they fit a G5 into that small case. From what I have heard, it was quite easy for them to use the XServe's motherboard and retro-fit it into this case. But I want to know if they did anything else in terms of heat disipation. Does this pave the way for a G5 Powerbook?? Why, oh WHY isn't there a G5 powerbook yet??? Come on Steve!! :)
