Sudeki - The RPG that is taking up all my time right now
I got a new RPG to hold me over until either: a new Final Fantasy comes out, Gran Turismo 4 comes out, or Fabel comes out. So I got Sudeki for my birthday (yeah, yeah...i know it isn't my bday yet...)! I've been playing it for about a week now, so I thought I would share some of my thoughts. So click on the link below to read my review so far!
Let me know what you think of the game if you have played it as well!
Sudeki has been one of those "most antipicated games" of this year for the XBox. There haven't really been any good RPG out for the XBox yet except for KOTOR, so Sudeki was the next big one in the line up. Before I got the game, IGN did their review of the game and basically said the combat was great, but that is about it to the game. So far, I disagree.
To start, the graphics in the game are really quite nice. Not much better than the rest of the games out there, but so far, nice environments, visually pleasing towns, and great character models. The character are pretty cool, and boy the girls of Sudeki sure did get a lot of pixle padding on the front of them...;) One thing with this game (that is pretty much the same in all RPGs at this point) is that you can only go on the paths. I haven't seen any real "world" area like in Final Fantasy that you can just roam around in yet. But so far, I haven't really even thought about that until right now.
The game play is very nice. The camera movement is very well thought out and works well with the movement of the character.
On to the combat: This is where Sudeki shines.
I just recently got all 4 characters in my party at the same time. So now I've had a chance to play with all of them a bit. The combat is really cool in this game. The only game that I can compare it to is The Mark of Kri (Which if you have never played, PLAY IT!!). Each character has different attacks. Both the melee characters (Tal and Buki) have a set of combos that you learn to aid you in your botton slapping adventures. You start to learn which combos can get you out of those tight situations. The coolest thing about the combat though is that when you go into the menu (to select things like spells, items, etc), the combat goes into slow motion. You can then move the camera around while it is in slo-mo and check out your sweet attack as you kick a monsters butt. It is really a cool idea. It keeps the combat in "real time" while you are still in the menu and you don't really get killed while in the menu either. IGN has many movies of the combat if you want to check it out.
As for the story line that IGN bashed, I don't think it is all that bad so far. There is an actual plot, there is some relationship building going on (I bet Tal and Ailish get together!!), and of course, we must Save The World!! It would be a very good RPG if we didn't save the world would it?? The story isn't as great as a Final Fantasy story, but it is a lot better than other games I've played.
So for now, I like the game. The story keeps me wanting to play more and the combat is always fun. Can't wait to get more spells and new weapons.
